California Choirs
Minutes of the July 16, 2005 directors' Board meeting 10:00 a.m. Cocoa's in Brea, breakfast meeting. In attendance: Glenn Wanke, Gabriella Rollins, (Pacific Jazz Choir/ Vocal Magic), John Faller, Rebecca Faller (Buena Park Chorus), Fred Copeland, Clare Lang (Sierra Madre Chorale), Carolyn Kessinger (Orange Community Master Chorale). Discussion items: Choral Festivals Past May 14, 2005 Spring festival location (Faith Lutheran Church in Anaheim) was a good location, great acoustics. Suggestions for future concerts: better placement of piano or moniters, so it can be heard by the singers. Choral risers if possible. More advertising to the public, senior centers, local churches, & colleges in the area to increase our audience. Afterglow & mixer on the premises following the concert (coffee & dessert potluck). Free public admission for audience is preferred, unless location rental necessitates ticket sales. Donations will be encouraged, we will have a donation box available. Upcoming fall choral festival: Saturday November 5, 7:00 p.m. John Faller is checking with his church for location possibility. We will have a potluck coffee dessert after the concert. Groups may include, but not limited to, holiday music. Concert title & theme: Winter Frolic Combined choir numbers are music we have done in the past: River Carol, Winter Frolic, Hallelujah Chorus (Handel). Many choirs already have this music. Choirs will contribute a registration fee of $50 to $75 (depending on size of group) to help offset concert expenses. Every 2 years, choirs are also asked to contribute $35 to S.P.A.c.c.M. for administrative costs (web site, printing, mailings, etc.). Messiah sing along: Choir directors are invited to participate in the Handel Society Master Choir, and may recommend qualified singers from their groups. All singers must be approved by the Handel Society Board. The sing along is at the Nixon Library in Yorba Linda, 2:00 p.m. on Sunday November 27, 2005 (Thanksgiving weekend). Last year's attendance was over 500. Auditions & rehearsal dates, and details will be announced and publicized after Labor Day weekend. Music Festival cruise to Hawaii, July 8, 2006. We have over 50 people from various choirs signed up. Choirs may sing as individual group, provided that they have balanced sections. Otherwise, all singers will form the California Choirs Master Chorus. Rehearsals will be held prior to the cruise to learn the music. Concerts & cultural exchanges will be done in Maui & Kauai during the cruise. Activities and tours will be announced in the near future. A discussion was held regarding the cost of the cruise: July is high season, however, the board decided that this date worked best for everyone. Also, this is a new ship, with the most desirable itinerary. Choirs are encouraged to submit current pictures of group & director, and information regarding concerts for the website. minutes submitted by Gabriella, July 17, 2005
